This class encourages children to explore movement and discover their potential in a positive and happy environment. Students tell stories through movement; explore the dance elements of shape, time, space, and energy; and practice basic motor skills. This is an excellent and interesting approach to prepare children for future technical training in dance and/or sports. Emphasis is on individual development and creativity.

Ballet.jpg

Classical ballet is the foundation of all dance forms and therefore most important in dance education. It is strongly recommended for all students. Exercises at the barre and in the center develop strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, self-discipline, and a keen sense of body awareness. A contemporary understanding of anatomy and kinesiology is combined with practice of the classical form. This class provides students with sound technical training as well as an interesting and expressive workout. Class is taught in French vocabulary with classical music.

Contemporary.jpg

Difficult to define, Contemporary dance is not a technique as much as a collection of methods and techniques found in Ballet, Modern, Jazz and more. The subject tends to be intricate and physical, and dancers learn to change levels and directions quickly and seamlessly; movements are smaller, faster, and angular in appearance; movement is more internal, showing the dancer's strength, control and quickness of movements. Contemporary may deal with abstract concepts, images or emotional extremes.

Based on the Broadway era from the 1920s to the present, our theatre dance classes are sure to capture the heart of anyone interested in the performing arts. In this course, students learn strong technique in jazz fundamentals as well as choreography derived from various Broadway styles. Teachers lead students through a center warm-up including stretches, isolations, and core strengthening. This is followed by across-the-floor technique and choreography. Theatre Dance has standard levels that can be seen on our schedule.

Tap is a dance style that tells a story through every click of a dancer’s shoes. It evolved from African American and Irish step dancing traditions and gained widespread fame on Hollywood’s silver screens and during the Vaudeville Era. Tap dancing focuses on the musicality of the dancer and the use of their feet as percussion instruments.
